Yankees Pivoting To Nestor Cortes In Game 5
2 years agoNew York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes will get the ball in Game 5 of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday after Monday's game was postponed due to inclement weather. The Yankees were slated to go with right-hander Jameson Taillon on Monday, but they'll shift to Cortes with the game being moved back a day. Cortes will be going on three days of rest after he took the ball in the Game 2 loss on Friday, when he allowed two earned runs on six hits while walking three and striking out three in a no-decision in his first career postseason start. The 27-year-old southpaw was an All-Star in 2022, but he'll be on a short leash in this one on short rest. Expect Taillon to be available out of the bullpen to piggyback Cortes, if needed.
