Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Wants To Move Back To 3B
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is determined to prove to the team that he's capable of moving back to third base in 2021. Guerrero made his season debut with Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Winter League on Tuesday and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout and an RBI. "I came to Escogido to play third base and to prepare to play third," Guerrero said. Toronto is encouraged by his commitment, but third base remains "open" after the team moved on from Travis Shaw. Guerrero ranked last out of 218 infielders in 2019 in Outs Above Average. The 21-year-old has lost weight this offseason and has the hands and arm to play the position, but the Blue Jays need to see more. Guerrero's long-term position is at first base, so even if he moves to the hot corner occasionally moving forward, the Blue Jays will likely want him to keep learning over at the cold corner. He'll also need to elevate the ball in the air more often for him to deliver on the tremendous hype that came with him in his rookie season.
