Tyler Johnson 2020 Outlook: Fifth-Round Rookie Should Battle For Backup Slot Role
5 years agoTyler Johnson, a fifth-round pick out of Minnesota this year, is a solid route-runner that excels on 50-50 balls despite a lack of size (6-foot-1, 206 pounds). Despite being undersized for a receiver, his physical style of play helped him produce back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons to finish his college career. However, Johnson lacks explosion and high-end speed, which could be a problem for him out of the slot at the next level. The Buccaneers already have one of the better slot receivers in the game in Chris Godwin, so Johnson will be a bit of a project and will compete with Scotty Miller as the backup to Godwin in his rookie season. We'd be surprised if Johnson saw much time on the field in Tampa in 2020, making him only attractive as a flier in dynasty/keeper leagues.
