Trevor Story Hopes To Begin Rehab Assignment In September
4 months agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder) said sometime in September is the target date for him to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. The Red Sox will likely map something out soon, but there is no firm start date. The fact that Story is even thinking about a return in 2024 is positive news after he suffered a fractured left shoulder diving for a ball at shortstop in mid-April. The 31-year-old veteran required surgery but has already taken batting practice and is doing other baseball activities as he prepares to go on a rehab assignment soon. However, even if Story doesn't suffer any kind of setbacks during his rehab assignment, there's no guarantee that he'll be of use again to fantasy managers down the stretch. Boston will almost assuredly shut Story down if they are eliminated from playoff contention. Expect Ceddanne Rafaela to continue serving as the team's primary shortstop for the foreseeable future.
