Taylor Heinicke Has A Chance To Start Against Buccaneers
4 years agoThere is a real chance that Washington Football Team quarterback Taylor Heinicke ends up starting against the Buccaneers on Saturday night in the wild-card playoff game, according to sources. Alex Smith (calf) remains sore and his leg hasn't loosened up. Heinicke took the majority of first-team snaps at practice this week and is ready to go if Smith cannot battle through the injury. The decision seems likely to go right up to game time. Heinicke was 12-for-19 for 137 yards and a touchdown in relief of Dwayne Haskins in the loss to the Panthers in Week 16, also running the ball three times for 22 yards. Washington's offense is in much better hands with the veteran Smith under center, so you'll need to downgrade the team's pass-catchers if Heinicke makes the start over Smith. Neither Washington QB should be in fantasy lineups for the wild-card round.
