Spencer Torkelson 2022 Player Outlook: Top Prospect Ready to Make an Impact
3 years agoSpencer Torkelson is one of the most exciting hitters we've seen in the Tigers organization in some time. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft, Torkelson wasted no time showing everyone what he's made of last season. He blazed his way through Detroit's system, starting in High A and ending in AAA. Throughout all levels he hit .267 with a .383 OBP, .550 SLG as well as 30 HR and 91 RBI. His plate discipline and power numbers suggest he is ready for big-league pitching, and he didn't slow down when climbing up the ladder. Torkelson hit 14 HR with a .373 OBP in 50 games in AA and 11 HR with a .350 OBP in 40 games in AAA. Tigers manager AJ Hinch has made it very clear that Torkelson has a chance to make the big league club to start the season and would likely be the everyday first baseman upon his arrival to Detroit. Whether or not Torkelson starts the year in the big leagues, he is a very interesting sleeper (current ADP 228) whose draft stock could climb as we get closer to the season. The Tigers are going all in this season and Torkelson needs to be a part of their success. ATC projects Detroit's top prospect to slash .248/.334/.452 with 18 home runs, 57 RBI, 54 runs scored, and three stolen bases over 421 plate appearances. He has as good a chance as anybody to win AL Rookie of the Year and should be on fantasy radars all season long.
