Sonny Gray's Option Will Be Picked Up
2 years agoThe Minnesota Twins will pick up right-hander Sonny Gray's $12.5 million team option for the 2023 season. Gray injured his hamstring late in the season and finished on the injured list, but overall it was a very solid season for the 32-year-old starting pitcher in his first year in Minnesota. He finished with an 8-5 record, 3.08 ERA (3.41 FIP), a 1.13 WHIP, 117 strikeouts and 36 walks in 119 2/3 innings over his 24 starts. Gray's 24 percent strikeout rate was a bit of a disappointment and his lowest mark since 2018 with the New York Yankees, but the two-time All-Star should remain a solid fantasy arm in 2023 as the Twins' top rotation arm, barring an offseason acquisition.
