St. Louis Cardinals left-handed pitching prospect allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over three innings on Wednesday against Triple-A Charlotte. Mathews was able to rack up seven strikeouts with 14 whiffs on 31 swings, but was inconsistent with his control as he threw just 42 of 79 pitches for strikes. The lefty has had at least three walks in 11 of 18 starts this season. For the season, the 24-year-old owns a respectable 3.88 ERA, but a bloated 1.65 WHIP in 65 innings at Triple-A. He'll need to harness his strike-throwing for him to be in any consideration for a starter role in the future.--Kyle McCarthy
