Patriots Not Ready To Commit To Starting QB For Week 8
2 years agoNew England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick wasn't ready to name a starting quarterback for the Week 8 game against the New York Jets after the team's blowout loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night in which starter Mac Jones was pulled after three series in favor of rookie Bailey Zappe. Jones' final play was an interception, but Belichick insisted he wasn't benched and would have returned in the second half if the game had been closer. Belichick said they intended for both Jones and Zappe to play on Monday and informed both players of the plan before the game, with Jones' recovery from a high-ankle sprain "a factor" in the decision. Zappe led back-to-back touchdown drives when he entered the game, but he also threw two interceptions in the second half. It seems likely that the Pats will go back to Jones this weekend, but we officially have a QB controversy in New England.
