Walker Buehler to Join Phillies Rotation on Sept. 12
Walker Buehler will have to wait a little while to debut with the club. Philadelphia plans to have Buehler make one start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley before it brings him up to take the ball against the Kansas City Royals on Sept. 12, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. The Phillies will experiment with a six-man rotation down the stretch, so Buehler's not going to push anyone out of their starting staff. The club's hoping to catch late-season lightning in a bottle with Buehler, who has struggled this year despite possessing a quality track record. After a fruitful run with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2017-24, he joined the Boston Red Sox on a one-year, $21.05 million guarantee last winter. The 31-year-old fell flat in Boston, though, as he pitched to a 5.45 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP and 84:55 in 112 1/3 innings before the team released him Friday.Source: Matt Gelb - The Athletic
After signing a minor-league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, right-hander Jorge Mateo Not Ready to Return
Jorge Mateo (hamstring) will not return from the 60-day injured list when rosters expand on Monday, interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters. Mateo has been out since early June with elbow and hamstring problems. The 30-year-old has been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk since Aug. 20, and he'll spend more time there before rejoining the Orioles. Mateo has played in 32 games with the O's this season and hit a miserable .180/.231/.279 with one homer, three RBI, seven runs scored, and 14 stolen bases in 65 plate appearances.Source: Danielle Allentuck - Baltimore Banner
Baltimore Orioles utility player Jake Burger Could Return on Monday
Jake Burger (wrist) faced live pitching on Sunday and could come off the 10-day injured list Monday, manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. Burger suffered a sprained left wrist on Aug. 17, continuing an injury-marred season for the 29-year-old. He has taken a total of three trips to the IL while also dealing with oblique and quadriceps issues. When healthy, Burger has hit an underwhelming .242/.275/.416 with 12 homers, 41 RBI, and 36 runs scored in 84 games and 309 plate appearances. The left-handed Rowdy Tellez has gotten most of the work at first base lately, and he and the right-handed Burger could share the position for the rest of the season.Source: Kennedi Landry - MLB.com
Texas Rangers first baseman James McCann Dealing With Lower-Back Tightness
James McCann (back) was scratched Friday with tightness in his lower back and did not play in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Diamondbacks instead started Adrian Del Castillo, who has mostly served as a DH when he has played this year. Shortly after starter Gabriel Moreno landed on the injured list with a hairline fracture in his right index finger on June 16, the Diamondbacks signed McCann to help cover for his loss. McCann has hit a respectable .233/.316/.384 with three homers in 98 plate appearances with the D-backs, but thanks in part to his back issues, he has only played in three games since Moreno returned Aug. 22.Source: MLB.com
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Pablo Lopez Dominant in Triple-A Rehab Start
Pablo Lopez (shoulder) was outstanding in a rehab start with Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. Lopez threw 5 2/3 innings of scoreless, four-hit ball while striking out seven and walking one on 82 pitches (52 strikes). It was the third and likely final rehab start for Lopez, who has been sidelined with a teres major strain in his shoulder since early June. Before suffering the injury, the 29-year-old went 5-3 with a 2.82 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 61:14 K:BB over 11 starts and 60 2/3 innings. Barring a change of plans, Lopez should return to the Twins' rotation in the coming days, likely during a weekend series against the Kansas City Royals.Source: MiLB.com
Minnesota Twins right-hander Mitch Farris Could Start for Angels on Tuesday
Mitch Farris to start Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. The Angels need starting help after optioning Jack Kochanowicz to Triple-A and placing Tyler Anderson (oblique) on the 15-day injured list. That may lead them to Farris, who does not rank among MLB Pipeline's top 30 Angels prospects. The 24-year-old has thrown 116 innings in Double-A ball this season and recorded a 4.27 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP and 142:55 K:BB. Those aren't great numbers, though Farris has been far better in his past four starts, having put up a 1.52 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 23 2/3 frames. That stellar production could earn Farris a promotion in the next couple of days.Source: Jeff Fletcher - Orange County Register
The Los Angeles Angels could call up minor-league left-hander Nolan Schanuel hasn't Resumed Baseball Activities
Nolan Schanuel (wrist) has not resumed baseball activities since he went on the 10-day injured list with a left-wrist contusion on Aug. 24, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Schanuel now looks likely to miss more than 10 days, and it's unclear when he'll be able to come back. The former 11th overall pick (2023) has hit .266/.355/.383 with 10 homers, 49 RBI, 61 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 535 plate appearances this season. The Angels have been going with a Niko Kavadas-Oswald Peraza tandem at first base in Schanuel's absence.Source: Jeff Fletcher - Orange County Register
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jorge Soler Ramping Up Activities
Jorge Soler (back) is making progress in his recovery from inflammation in his lower back. Soler has begun increasing activities in the field, including shagging fly balls, while taking batting practice on "several" occasions and hitting off a high-velocity machine, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. Soler has been on the 10-day injured list since July 24, but the team is hopeful that he'll return sometime in September. The 33-year-old slugger has played in 82 games and slumped to a .215/.293/.387 line with 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 315 plate appearances.Source: Jeff Fletcher - Orange County Register
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Enrique Bradfield Jr. Moving Up to Triple-A
Enrique Bradfield Jr. from Double-A Chesapeake to Triple-A Norfolk. The 17th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Bradfield dealt with a hamstring strain that limited him to 50 games with Chesapeake this year. The 23-year-old speedster still posted impressive production with the Baysox, slashing .269/.393/.386 with two homers, 14 RBI, 32 runs scored, and 26 stolen bases. He also tallied almost as many walks (32) as strikeouts (37) in that 250-plate appearance span. Bradfield ranks fourth among O's prospects at MLB Pipeline and could put his elite speed on display in the majors sometime next year.Source: MiLB Central

Luis Severino to Start on Tuesday
Luis Severino (oblique) will come off the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. It'll be the first start since Aug. 5 for Severino, who has missed just under a month with a strained left oblique. In his first season with the A's, the 31-year-old has gone 6-11 with a disappointing 4.82 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 103:44 K:BB across 24 starts and 136 1/3 innings. Severino has been markedly better on the road (3.17 ERA) than at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, where he has pitched to an awful 6.34 ERA. Fortunately for Severino, he'll be in St. Louis on Tuesday and facing a mediocre offense that ranks 16th in the majors in runs and 23rd in OPS.Source: Jason Burke - A's on SI
Athletics right-hander Matt Chapman Leaves Early on Sunday, Expects to Play Monday
Matt Chapman (shin, foot) exited a 13-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday after fouling a ball off his left shin/foot in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chapman finished his plate appearance with a walk before the Giants subbed in Casey Schmitt to pinch run for him. It seems that it was a precautionary move on the Giants' part, though, as Chapman said after the game that he's doing fine and expects to play on Monday against the Colorado Rockies. After going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks on Sunday, Chapman is hitting .231/.341/.430 with 18 homers, 50 RBI, 60 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in 437 plate appearances. He played in 19 games in August and went just 13-for-64 (.203) with two HRs, eight RBI, 11 runs, two steals, and 13 walks.Source: Shayna Rubin - The San Francisco Chronicle
San Francisco Giants third baseman Jac Caglianone Returning From 10-Day Injured List on Monday
Jac Caglianone (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The 22-year-old rookie missed the last few days of July and all of August with a strained left hamstring. Caglianone was the sixth pick in the 2024 draft, and his promotion to the majors in early June came with great fanfare. However, he could only muster a .147/.205/.280 slash line with five home runs and 10 RBI in 41 games and 161 plate appearances before he went on the IL. While Caglianone has slashed a video game-like .337/.408/.617 with 20 homers and 72 RBI across 304 trips to the plate at the Triple-A level this season, it's unclear how much playing time he'll receive in his return to the Royals. Fellow left-handed hitter Mike Yastrzemski, acquired from the San Francisco Giants after Caglianone landed on the shelf, has taken over as the team's primary right fielder and has thrived.Source: Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals announced that they will activate outfielder Royals to Promote Carter Jensen to Majors
Carter Jensen from Triple-A Omaha on Monday. The 22-year-old Kansas City native was a third-round pick in 2021 who now ranks as MLB Pipeline's 69th-best prospect and the No. 2 farmhand in the Royals' system. Jensen opened 2025 in Double-A ball before earning a promotion to Omaha, where his phenomenal production led to his first call to the majors. In 43 games at the Triple-A level this year, Jensen slashed .288/.404/.647 with 14 home runs and 39 RBI in 184 plate appearances. While Jensen may be the long-term successor to franchise icon Salvador Perez, the latter is still the team's starter behind the plate. Jensen should overtake light-hitting journeyman Luke Maile as the Royals' No. 2 backstop and pick up playing time when Perez is out of the lineup or at DH.Source: Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals announced that they intend to promote catcher Tyler Wells Scheduled to Start for Orioles on Tuesday
Tyler Wells (elbow) is scheduled to come off the 60-day injured list and start against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. Wells hasn't taken the mound in the majors since April 12, 2024, as he was shut down with elbow troubles and had to have internal-brace surgery on his UCL. Almost 15 months after going under the knife in June 2024, he'll come back to finish out the season as part of a six-man Orioles rotation. The 31-year-old made five Triple-A rehab starts this summer and notched a terrific 2.70 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP and 23:6 K:BB in 23 1/3 innings. Wells hasn't been as successful in the majors, where he has totaled 95 appearances (46 starts) and recorded a decent 4.06 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP, 8.28 K/9, and 2.35 BB/9 over 294 2/3 frames.Source: MLB.com
