Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu went 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Monday's 13-6 win against the visiting Cincinnati Reds. The Venezuelan native was electric in the lopsided win, though he severely misjudged his first home run of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Abreu led off the inning with a bomb to the deepest part of the park. It was clear he thought it left the yard, evidenced by his slow start out of the box, but quickly turned on the jets after it bounced off the top of the wall. Fortunately, TJ Friedl misjudged it, too, falling to the warning track to allow the 26-year-old to book it home. Then, in the eighth, Abreu cleared the bases with his first career grand slam. He appears to be heating up again, logging three home runs over the last three days--Alex CiullaSource: ESPN

The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen suggests that Detroit Tigers infielder Colt Keith, who has played back-to-back games at third base and seven appearances overall at the hot corner this year, could stick at third base more permanently moving forward. Keith played third in the minors before a shoulder injury hurt his throwing arm, and it's been a way to keep his bat in the lineup with Gleyber Torres at second and Spencer Torkelson at first. With Keith and Matt Vierling now options at third, the Tigers may be less inclined to acquire another infielder at the trade deadline this summer. The 23-year-old left-handed hitter should continue to start at third against right-handers, which means he should regain third-base eligibility for fantasy managers. Keith is currently slashing .247/.331/.402 with six homers, 25 RBI and 35 runs scored in 219 at-bats in his second year in the big leagues.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Cody Stavenhagen

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows has yet to lock it in since returning from the injured list with a nerve issue in his throwing arm on June 2. He has homered twice in 75 at-bats, but The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen writes that Meadows has looked more like the hitter who was optioned to the minors early last season than the one who had an .840 OPS in August and September. He is currently hitting .187 (14-for-75) and has struck out over 35 percent of the time on breaking balls. The good news is that the 25-year-old has gone 8-for-30 (.267) with a homer, double, four RBI and five runs scored of late in his last nine games. Fantasy managers that continue to hang onto him have to hope that he's just starting slow for a second straight season. If he continues to struggle, though, the Tigers could hold him out against lefties in center field in favor of Matt Vierling.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Cody Stavenhagen

Cleveland Guardians infield prospect Angel Genao went 2-for-3 with two walks and a pair of singles on Sunday for Double-A Akron, his fifth consecutive game with two hits, during which time he's gone 10-for-17 (.588) with a double, a triple, four RBI, five runs scored, two steals, and a 4:1 BB:K. The Guardians' fourth-ranked prospect dealt with a shoulder injury that kept him out until June 9, but since that time, he's slashing .306/.363/.431 in 19 games for the RubberDucks. The 21-year-old has good contact skills, striking out at just a 13.8 percent rate this season at Double-A, and is coming off a 25-steal campaign in 2024, so there is some speed as well. With such a delay to his season, he may spend the rest of the year at Double-A, but if he continues to collect multi-hit games, a taste of Triple-A before the season is out would be prudent.--Jarod RuppSource: MiLB.com

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Andrew Heaney did not allow a run over 6 2/3 innings in his team's 7-0 home win against the St. Louis Cardinals. The veteran scattered three hits, walked one, and struck out seven to notch his fourth victory (4-7) in 17 starts. Heaney had a no-hitter going through five innings and allowed no runs in an outing for the third time this season, but first since Apr. 23. It was a nice bounce-back effort after letting 15 runs cross the plate over his last two appearances. He was due for some regression, and it hit him hard, considering he held a 2.91 ERA at the end of May. Heaney sits at 4.16 now, to go along with a 1.20 WHIP. He'll carry those metrics into his next trip to the mound -- a road meeting with the Seattle Mariners this weekend.--Alex CiullaSource: ESPN

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler was masterful on Monday, striking out 10 over eight scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Padres. He picked up his eighth win of the season, allowing six hits and no walks. This was the 35-year-old's third double-digit strikeout performance of the season, and his fourth-straight start of at least eight punchouts. During that span, he's allowed just one earned run over 25 innings. The veteran remains one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and will carry a 2.36 ERA with 136 strikeouts and 25 walks into his next outing, which is currently set to be against the Reds.--Jeremy HeistSource: MLB.com

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (neck) left Monday's game in the seventh inning after getting into a rough collision while sliding into third base, reports Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. While attempting to go from first to third on a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. single, Springer's head-first slide went into Jazz Chisholm's knee, with his throat/neck area taking most of the impact. More updates on his status will be available after the game, but the best-case scenario would be that he just got the wind knocked out of him and was struggling to breathe in the moment. The 35-year-old has been enjoying a resurgent campaign so far in 2025, slashing .263/.360/.459 with 11 home runs and nine stolen bases. UPDATE: Springer is considered day-to-day and will likely be back in the lineup for Tuesday's game, according to manager John Schneider.--Jeremy HeistSource: Shi Davidi

Baltimore Orioles catcher Chadwick Tromp (back) left Monday's game in the third inning with lower back tightness, reports Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com. Gary Sanchez shifted from designated hitter to catcher, meaning the pitcher had to take Tromp's spot in the lineup, which is a rare sight to see nowadays. More details regarding the severity of the injury should be available after the game. If the injury is serious enough to keep him out of the lineup moving forward, it could potentially open up time for top prospect Samuel Basallo. However, the Orioles are unlikely to want to waste his rookie eligibility on a lost season where they are 12 games back in their division, so veteran Jacob Stallings may be the more likely choice.--Jeremy HeistSource: Rich Dubroff

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman (hamstring) is likely headed to the injured list, reports Christian Saez of TheDNVR.com. The move is expected with reports of catcher Austin Nola likely getting called up before Tuesday's game. Goodman has been dealing with hamstring tightness that has held him out of the lineup since June 25. This is a big blow to the Rockies and fantasy managers who have been relying on the 25-year-old, who has posted a .287 batting average with 14 home runs, 48 RBI, and 40 runs so far in 2025. The good news is that if the injury only requires a minimum stay on the injured list, the slugger will be eligible to return as early as next week.--Jeremy HeistSource: Christian Saez

New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham (hamstring) left Monday's game in the bottom of the fifth inning with hamstring tightness, reports Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Jasson Dominguez replaced him in the lineup in left field, with Cody Bellinger shifting to center. Prior to the injury, Grisham was 1-for-2 with a single, so it's possible that the hamstring became an issue while he was running the bases. Expect further updates on the severity of the injury after the game. Hopefully it remains a day-to-day issue for the 28-year-old rather than requiring a trip to the injured list, as he's in the midst of a career-best season. He is slashing .246/.348/.467 with 15 home runs and regularly leads off for the Yankees.--Jeremy HeistSource: Bryan Hoch

Los Angeles Angels infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor (hand) is still wearing a brace on his fractured left hand but will accompany the team on their road trip to Atlanta and Toronto this week, according to MLB.com. Taylor was hit by a pitch on June 9 and landed on the 10-day injured list a day later after X-rays showed a fracture. We'll have a better idea on the 34-year-old veteran's timetable for a return when he resumes baseball activities, but in a best-case scenario he might be able to return as a super-utility player for the Halos in late July. The strikeout-happy Taylor was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers this year after hitting .200 with 13 strikeouts in 35 plate appearances. He went 6-for-30 (.200) with a homer, three RBI and 13 K's in his first 10 games with the Angels and is merely an AL-only option for bench depth at this point in his career.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com

Los Angeles Angels infielder Yoan Moncada (knee) has been taking batting practice from the left side and taking part in on-field baseball activities. He left for Arizona on Sunday to start a minor-league rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, according to MLB.com. Moncada was placed on the 10-day injured list on June 2 with right-knee inflammation but could return before the mid-July All-Star break as long as he doesn't have a setback on his rehab assignment. The 30-year-old veteran switch-hitter continues to deal with injuries and just hasn't been reliable for fantasy managers outside of infield depth in AL-only leagues. He's gone 23-for-97 (.237) in his first year with the Halos with six home runs, 19 RBI and 16 runs scored. When Moncada returns, he should see plenty of playing time at third base alongside Luis Rengifo.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com

New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil (lat) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session on Tuesday with Double-A Somerset, and his minor-league rehab assignment could start this Sunday, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. Gil is expected to throw around 35 pitches during his live BP session on Tuesday after completing bullpen sessions on a regular basis recently. The 27-year-old will need at least a few starts in the minors before the Yankees consider activating him for his 2025 season debut in late July or early August. Gil won the American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2024 with a 3.50 ERA, but his 4.36 xFIP and .237 BABIP shows that he was probably fortunate to be as good as he was last year. He has plenty of strikeout stuff after fanning 26.8% of the batters he faced, but he also had an elevated 12.1% walk rate. Fantasy managers might want to temper expectations upon his return.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com - Bryan Hoch

Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman (quadriceps) is "feeling great," and his six-week reassessment is coming this weekend, according to the Boston Herald's Gabrielle Starr. "The way he's talking about it he's close to 100 percent," manager Alex Cora said. While Bregman has made excellent progress and feels great, we already know that the BoSox plan on holding him out until the start of the second half of the season on July 18. Until then, rookie Marcelo Mayer will continue to serve as Boston's third baseman against right-handed pitchers. Fantasy managers will be hoping that Bregman can continue to lean into his power when he comes off the injured list, as he was hitting a strong .299 (59-for-197) with 11 home runs, 35 RBI, 32 runs scored and a steal in his first 51 games with Boston before his quad injury.--Keith HernandezSource: Boston Herald - Gabrielle Starr
