6 days agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jose Butto is expected to take the mound for Sunday's start against the Kansas City Royals. The right-hander recently made a spot start for the Mets during a doubleheader last week. He pitched well allowing only one run over six innings of work against the Detroit Tigers. It appears he'll get at least one more outing in the Mets rotation. He could be worth a look as a possible deep league streaming option on Sunday.Source: Mike Puma
6 days agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Darius Vines has been recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. The organization is still searching for a viable option for the fifth spot in the rotation after the loss of Spencer Strider (elbow) who was placed on the injured list. Vines is expected to help fill out the rotation, so the rest of the starters can stay on schedule. In a corresponding move, right-hander Allan Winans has been optioned to Triple-A. Fantasy managers can go ahead and avoid Vines until further notice.Source: Atlanta Braves
6 days agoHouston Astros catcher Yainer Diaz continued his strong start of the season on Thursday versus the Kansas City Royals. Diaz went 2-for-5 on the day with a home run. The home run would be the third of the season for the 25-year-old. Diaz has become the full-time catcher with veteran Martin Maldonado signing with the Chicago White Sox this offseason and the move has worked to perfection thus far. Diaz has not only been a solid bat in the middle of the lineup, but he is hitting a healthy .333 with three homers and seven RBI in 51 games. As a fixture in one of the better lineups in the league and at a tough position, fantasy managers must be thrilled with their early return on investment with Diaz.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoOakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's victory against the Texas Rangers. Brown's home run in the top of the second off Jon Gray would be the only run scored by both teams in a low offensive output. In addition to his home run, he also doubled. He is now hitting .175 with four RBI in 40 at-bats. Brown has been a steady source of power with 59 career home runs in the last three seasons, but that has been about it with a weak .225 career batting average. As with most power hitters that hurt managers in the average department, you have to ride them while they are hot and hopefully Thursday's performance can be the start of something good for Brown. For now, Brown can remain on the waiver wire in most formats.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Thursday's victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates. His home run would be the first of the season. Stott is coming off a career year in 2023, but has struggled early on in 2024 with a .220 batting average and five RBI. The good news is that he has stolen two bases and the better news is that the season is very young. Stott hitting at the bottom of the order isn't ideal for managers, but he is in a good Phillies lineup and shouldn't have a problem scoring runs or knocking them in. As it stands, Stott remains a serviceable second baseman that can help in multiple categories moving forward.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoBaltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Thursday's victory versus the division rival Boston Red Sox. Henderson's home run came in six-run, top of the 10th inning that led to the Orioles chalking up a win. Henderson's homer is now his third of the season to go along with eight RBI and a .229 batting average. He has also swiped three bags, The 22-year-old is coming off an impressive rookie campaign and it was one of the young stars on the Orioles roster. With his ability to help across the board and being a part of one of the best lineups in the league, Henderson continues to be one of the better bets at shortstop for the remainder of the season and for years moving forward.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez fell one out short of earning a quality start in Thursday's contest versus the Boston Red Sox. The youngster went 5 2/3 innings and allowed six hits, two runs, two walks and struck out five on the evening. The two walks were a season high, while the five strikeouts were a season low. Nonetheless, Rodriguez has remained effective and continues to ascend as one of the leagues best young arms. In three starts, Rodriguez is 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. He should be rostered everywhere and will look to build on his success versus the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoEarning a no-decision on Thursday, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Whitlock tossed five innings versus the division rival Baltimore Orioles. Whitlock allowed four hits, one run, two walks and struck out four on the evening. It was another solid performance, as Whitlock has been having a strong season with the rest of Boston's rotation. Whitlock now owns a shiny 1.26 ERA to go along with 16 strikeouts and six walks in 14 1/3 innings. Whitlock is worth rostering in most formats with his early season success and he will look to keep it going versus the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Michael McGreevy threw 6 2/3 shutout innings en route to his first victory of the season. The former first-round selection surrendered only four hits and one walk. He struck out four. This was an excellent bounce-back performance for the 23-year-old, as he allowed five earned runs in his previous start. He has an overall 4.02 ERA and 1.47 WHIP through 15 2/3 innings of Triple-A ball so far to begin the 2024 campaign. Last season, he had a similar 4.12 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 153 innings across Double-A and Triple-A. McGreevy should be expected to make his major-league debut sometime this summer.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoArizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect Yu-Min Lin tallied 10 punchouts across five innings in a no-decision result on Thursday. Lin also allowed seven hits and one free pass, giving up four earned runs. The southpaw is ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Diamondbacks system and is currently riding a 5.63 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across eight innings in Double-A this season. He has 15 total strikeouts. Lin posted much stronger numbers last season with a 3.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 121 1/3 innings with 140 strikeouts across two levels of the minor leagues. If Lin can bounce back and deliver a few strong performances, he could earn a late-season call-up to the desert as the Diamondbacks eye another postseason run. Lin should be left for dynasty leagues for now, but if he reaches Triple-A, he could become worth stashing in deeper redraft formats.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies infield prospect Aidan Miller launched his first professional home run in Thursday's victory over Fort Myers. Miller knocked a single in the third inning and hit the first-round tripper of his career in the fifth. Miller is listed as the third overall prospect in the Philadelphia pipeline and is currently posting a .350/.440/.550 stat line across the first five games of the season at the Single-A level. The former first-round pick is a name to monitor in dynasty formats as if he can continue to hit well, he could find himself progressing through the minor leagues rather quickly.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoHouston Astros outfield prospect Joey Loperfido launched his sixth home run of the season in the third inning on Thursday. He then hit an RBI double in the fifth, increasing the Sugar Land lead. The sixth overall prospect in the Houston system is riding a .289/.358/.711 stat line through the first 11 games of the season. With his dominance at the Triple-A level, Loperfido should be in consideration to make his major league debut sooner rather than later making him a must-stash in AL-only and deeper formats. When he receives the call, he will see time in center field, which is currently occupied by Jake Meyers, or slide over could slider over to first base and relieve Jose Abreu.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoOakland Athletics shortstop prospect Jacob Wilson went 4-for-5 with six RBI to power the Midland Rock Hounds over the Amarillo Sod Poodles on Thursday. Wilson knocked a leadoff single in the first inning and then proceeded to swipe second and third base but was unable to score. In the second, he laced an RBI single, which scored Junior Perez. Wilson continued to swing a hot bat as he knocked an RBI double in the fourth inning, which at the time evened the score. He stole third base shortly after. To cap off a monster day at the plate, Wilson launched a grand slam in the eighth inning, which put Midland in the driver's seat. This was only Wilson's fifth game at Double-A. With this recent performance, a promotion to Triple-A later in the summer may not be out of the question, making him an interesting player to stash in dynasty formats.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm had a nice game on Thursday, going 2-for-3 and hitting his first homer of the season in a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bohm had been struggling a bit to start the year, but with the big performance, he is now up to a .267 AVG and .787 OPS, showing how early we still are in the season. There is no reason to panic yet with the 27-year-old, who should be a solid four-category contributor.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh had another good day at the plate on Thursday in a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Marsh went 1-for-3 with his fourth homer of the young season and added a run and two RBI to his line as well. The 26-year-old appears to be finding his groove fourth MLB season, as he is slashing a strong .333/.357/.641 with six runs, four homers, nine RBI, and a steal. He doesn't play every day, but if he continues to hit he might force the Phillies hand. Marsh has some upside and is a decent option in fantasy leagues, especially those with five outfielder spots to fill.Source: MLB.com
