Melvin Gordon III 2020 Outlook: Change Of Scenery Could Vault Him Back To RB1 Status
5 years agoMelvin Gordon III bet on himself last year in a contract standoff with the Chargers, and it backfired miserably. Not only did he sit out the first four games of the season, but when he returned he was sluggish and took a back seat to Austin Ekeler. Most fantasy owners will be down on the two-time Pro Bowler after he averaged just 3.8 yards per carry and 612 rushing yards on 162 carries, although he did score nine touchdowns (eight rushing, one receiving). After signing a two-year, $16 million deal with Denver in free agency, the Broncos figure to use Gordon as their primary back in 2020, with Phillip Lindsay providing a change of pace. Gordon's strengths as a runner could be amplified in Denver's mostly inside-zone running scheme in an offense that could make plenty of noise. At a current ADP of 31, Gordon is an attractive RB2 with RB1 upside if he truly separates himself from Lindsay in the Mile High city.
