Max Meyer Plays Catch
Max Meyer (hip) was seen playing catch before Monday's series opener against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, according to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. Meyer is recovering from a left-hip impingement that has kept him out since June 2. Since he has yet to throw off a mound or even face live hitters, the 26-year-old is at least several weeks from returning from the 15-day injured list. He could be cutting it close to return to Miami's starting rotation before the mid-July All-Star break. The former third overall pick in 2020 out of Minnesota went 3-5 with a 4.73 ERA (4.40 FIP) and 1.42 WHIP with 68 punchouts and 20 walks in 64 2/3 innings over his 12 starts. Meyer looked great initially in 2024 after returning from Tommy John surgery before struggling down the stretch. He's still trying to find his groove, and if he does, he'll become a popular waiver-wire target in the second half.
