Lucas Giolito 2024 Player Outlook: Lost 2024 Season Puts Future Up In The Air
9 months agoBoston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito signed a two-year, $38.5 million deal with the team this winter but he will have to wait until 2025 to make his Sox debut. The 29-year-old was forced to undergo an internal brace procedure to repair the UCL in his right elbow, a procedure that carries a similar recovery time as Tommy John surgery, typically in the 12-16 month range for pitchers. Giolito scuffled across three teams in the 2023 season, posting a 4.88 ERA in 33 starts while allowing a whopping 2.00 HR/9. It was the second straight down season for the right-hander after posting a 4.90 ERA in 2022 with the White Sox. Given his recent struggles and uncertain future following major elbow surgery, Giolito is a tough injury stash for the season and should be left alone in all formats.
