Josh Downs 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook: Is Downs A Potential Sleeper?
Josh Downs' 2024 season got off on the wrong foot when a training camp ankle injury caused him to miss the first two games of the year. Despite the injury, Downs still set career highs in targets, receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Unfortunately, it did not lead to significantly better fantasy production. Downs only finished as the overall PPR WR35 and WR32 in PPR points per game. Indianapolis' quarterback situation remains poor, and the team used a first-round pick on Penn State tight end Tyler Warren in the 2025 NFL Draft. Downs now faces stiff target competition in the form of Warren and fellow receiver Michael Pittman Jr. However, Downs scored quite well in several key wide receiver metrics last year. Per Fantasy Points Data Suite, Downs had a 30% targets per route run and a solid 2.28 yards per route run in 2024. He has shown an ability to draw targets at a high rate and is a very talented player. That is usually a good combination for fantasy success, even in less-than-ideal circumstances. Downs is a fine target later in drafts as a flex play or WR3 with upside for more, especially in full PPR leagues.
