Jordan Wilkins 2019 Outlook: Odd Man Out in Indy
6 years agoComing into the 2018 season it was unknown whether Nyheim Hines or Jordan Wilkins would backup Marlon Mack. However, by the end of the season, the answer was clear, and it doesn't bode well for Wilkins. Playing in all 16 games, Wilkins had just 60 carries, 336 yards, and one touchdown. His real threat was supposed to be in the passing game, but he had just 16 catches for 85 yards, while Mack had 17 in 10 games and Hines had 63 in 16 games.
It is clear as long as Mack remains healthy, he is the lead back in Indianapolis. It is also clear Hines is the passing down back for the offense. With additions to the passing game, including Devin Funchess and rookie Parris Campbell, there are more plates for the pie to be shared between, and it leaves the piece for Wilkins as almost non-existent.
Andrew Luck is great. As great as he is though he cannot make rush attempts and targets appear when they aren’t there for the taking. This means a pick of Wilkins in fantasy drafts is a wasted pick. Marlon Mack is a good pick in the third or fourth-round. Nyheim Hines is a solid pick in the eighth or ninth-round. But the third back on a team who will be throwing more than half the time? Not a good investment.
