Jonathan Schoop Re-Signs With Tigers
4 years agoThe Detroit Tigers re-signed second baseman Jonathan Schoop to a one-year, $4.5 million deal on Friday, according to sources. The 29-year-old hit .278 with eight home runs and a .799 OPS in the shortened 2020 season and will return as the club's primary second baseman in 2021. An All-Star in 2017 with the Orioles when he had a career-high 32 home runs, Schoop hit .256/.304/.473 with 23 home runs and 59 RBI in 121 games for the Twins in his last full season in 2019. He has 20-homer power over a full season, but Schoop offers very little else to fantasy managers with a career .259 batting average, .297 on-base percentage and just eight stolen bases in eight seasons in the major leagues. He also resides in a pitcher-friendly park in Detroit. Schoop is, at best, a middle infield option in AL-only leagues for his power.
