Johan Oviedo Expected To Start Wednesday
4 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals are moving to a six-man starting rotation, with Johan Oviedo expected to make his first start of the year on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies at home. Oviedo tossed 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball on April 11 after coming on in relief for starter Daniel Ponce de Leon in the second inning. A formal announcement is expected to come Monday, but manager Mike Shildt said that it wasn't a "state secret." The 23-year-old right-hander has pitched in just six MLB games (five starts) and has allowed 15 earned runs in 29 1/3 innings (4.60 ERA) while walking 12 and striking out 20 hitters. Oviedo has a 5.47 ERA in his five MLB starts and is unlikely to go long enough to be eligible for a victory, so he'll be a poor DFS streamer on Wednesday.
