Jeurys Familia 2019 Outlook: Not Likely to Pick Up Many Saves
6 years agoJeurys Familia returned to form in 2018 despite spending half the year in New York and the other half in Oakland. In total, he had 73 strikeouts in 83 innings with 18 saves. Familia also had a 3.13 ERA and career-best 10.38 K/9. He returns to the Mets and will be utilized in a setup role since the Mets acquired stud closer Edwin Diaz from the Mariners this winter. Familia’s value is primarily dependent on Diaz’s health; however, regardless of his role, he looks to be a good option to put up solid strikeout numbers and a reliable ERA. Familia's would be most beneficial in leagues with a holds category. Be very cautious about using a pick on Familia in shallow leagues. In deeper leagues or leagues that count holds, he is a solid reliever option late in drafts. An ADP of 394 puts him safely on the waiver wire for Diaz owners to monitor as a handcuff during 2019.
