Jeff McNeil 2024 Player Outlook: Subpar Counting Stats Overvaluing ADP
9 months agoNew York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil had a league-average season at the plate in the 2023 campaign and posted some scary underlying metrics in the process. The 31-year-old hit .270 with 10 homers and 10 stolen bases across 156 games, a solid campaign. At the same time, he ranked in the eighth percentile or worse in xSLG, average exit velocity, barrel rate, and hard-hit rate. He has an elite eye at the plate and excellent bat-handling skills but very, very little power. His .108 isolated power in 2023 ranked 127th of 134 qualified hitters last season. Power has never been McNeil's bread and butter but ATC projections of eight home runs, six stolen bases, 64 runs, and 55 RBI in the 2024 season leave plenty to be desired. Even with a lack of reliable second-base options behind him, McNeil's 316.96 ADP still seems rich for a player relying solely on batting average.
