Jarrett Stidham Leading The Backup QB Battle
Jarrett Stidham is leading the way in the backup QB battle with Nick Mullens early in training camp. Stidham is familiar with the system from his time working with head coach Josh McDaniels in New England. He looked poised and made a few nice throws in practice on Thursday. Mullens has more NFL experience than Stidham, but Stidham could be Derek Carr's primary backup in 2022 based on his familiarity with McDaniels alone. In two seasons with the Patriots, Stidham played in eight games (zero starts) and completed 50% of his 48 attempts for 270 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
