Jake McCarthy 2023 MLB Player Outlook: An Impressive Year to Build On
2 years agoAfter an unprecedented breakout in his rookie season, outfielder Jake McCarthy has become a sign of hope for the meddling Arizona Diamondbacks. The 25-year-old got straight to work in his first season in the pros, and he's veering toward the "perennial talent" category if he continues to impress. McCarthy owned a .283/.342/.427 triple line with a 118 OPS+ this past year, and finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting. His strikeout numbers aren't where they should be (21.9%), and it wouldn't hurt to invest in some discipline. We can't determine his future as a power hitter just yet, but unless he puts on some muscle mass, he'll likely stick to his bat-to-ball technique. Although Steamer's projections aren't too appealing, he's only expected to slash .254/.319/.404. McCarthy is most certainly capable of exceeding those numbers. That's when NFBC perks up and gives a 121.13 ADP which is a better estimate of his capability.
