Jack Flaherty To Start Game 1 Against Yankees
1 year agoSt. Louis Cardinals right-hander Jack Flaherty (hip) will start Game 1 of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Saturday, with left-hander Matthew Liberatore set to go in Game 2. Flaherty had his last turn in the starting rotation skipped last weekend in London against the division-rival Chicago Cubs due to hip discomfort. The 27-year-old has struggled in 2023 to the tune of a 4.95 ERA (4.20 FIP), 1.60 WHIP, 44 walks, 80 strikeouts and a league-high eight hit by pitches in 80 innings over his 15 starts. However, he'll be on plenty of rest and is facing a Yankees lineup without All-Star slugger Aaron Judge (toe).
