The New York Giants placed the franchise tag on defensive lineman Leonard Williams on Monday, according to multiple sources. The Giants acquired Williams from the Jets last October and tried to sign him to a long-term deal. New York tagged him as a defensive tackle, the position he's played most frequently in his five-year career. That tag is expected to carry a one-year price tag of around $16.1 million. Williams and his camp could file a grievance since he wasn't tagged as a defensive end, a tag that would've raised his price to over $19 million for one year. The Giants still want to sign the pass-rusher to a long-term deal in the $12-13 million per-year range. He hasn't lived up to expectations after going sixth overall in the 2015 draft, and he has just 17.5 sacks in five NFL seasons.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
