Giants Extend Qualifying Offer To Brandon Belt
3 years agoThe San Francisco Giants extended first baseman Brandon Belt a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer on Sunday. If Belt declines the offer and signs with another team on the open market, the Giants will receive draft-pick compensation. The 33-year-old has become one of the better hitters in the league in the last two seasons. Belt played in just 97 games in 2021 due to injury, but he had a career-high 29 home runs and a .975 OPS while hitting in the heart of the batting order when he was on the field. A left thumb fracture kept him from playing in the postseason. Darin Ruf, LaMonte Wade Jr. and Wilmer Flores are options to take over for Belt next season if he declines the offer and signs elsewhere. Belt has been in the organization since he was drafted in the fifth round in 2009.
