Freddie Freeman Receives Qualifying Offer From Braves
3 years agoAtlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman received a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer, as expected, on Sunday. Freeman will obviously decline the offer. Many expect him to re-sign with Atlanta after helping them win their first World Series championship since 1995, but it's not a guarantee. The two sides engaged in contract negotiations during the season, but there is still a gap. Freeman is heading into his age-32 season and could be looking at a deal for around $200 million, whether it's with the Braves or another team. One of the best first basemen in baseball, Freeman is coming off another great season in 2021, hitting .300/.393/.503 with 31 home runs and 83 RBI in the regular season. If he decides to leave Atlanta and sign elsewhere, the Braves will receive draft-pick compensation.
