Dustin Pedroia Is No Longer A Viable 2B Option
7 years agoDustin Pedroia spent most of 2017 of the season dealing with injuries. That is another season he had to deal with health concerns, which unfortunately can be expected for a 34-year-old. Pedroia had surgery this offseason to fix his knee and will be out for the first couple of months. He had an OPS of .760 in 2017, which is only the second time in his 11-year MLB career that his OPS was under .787. Pedroia is not hitting the ball hard anymore, dropping six percent to 25.9%. He is still a team leader and possesses excellent contact (89.8%) and swinging strike percentages (4.8). However, power has never been a part of his game and a knee surgery will likely minimize the amount of stolen bases. This makes Pedroia even less viable. Pedroia only needs to be drafted in deep mixed leagues with a middle infield position. Even then, it is still a decision whether to use a disabled list slot or a bench slot on him. You should be trying to get rid of Pedroia in dynasty leagues instead of acquiring him.
