Drew Brees 2018 Outlook: Another Strong Season Incoming
6 years agoThe New Orleans Saints finally had a running game to complement their top-notch aerial attack last season, but with the Mark Ingram suspension to start 2018, Drew Brees should produce at an elite level early in the season.
Last season's mark of 33.5 passing attempts per game was Brees' lowest since 2009. He also had his lowest numbers in terms of overall passing yards and touchdowns since that same season. Although all of these point toward a "bad" fantasy season, Brees still finished as the 10th-ranked quarterback, which is a down year for his usual top-five self, but still good in the grand scheme of things. Last year also ended a streak of 11 straight seasons of being a top-six quarterback.
Once the roll of top quarterbacks start going, people will be tempted to draft Brees, but the true value with him begins in the sixth round. Anything before that would be a reach for Brees' talents. The veteran quarterback has the upside of being a top-six guy once again and you may be able to get him later in drafts this year than in any draft over the past decade. Be patient on snagging him.
