Deshaun Watson 2018 Outlook: Let's Be Realistic
6 years agoHouston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson had a historic run in the first half of 2017 before a tragic ACL injury ended his rookie campaign. Watson put up 19 touchdowns in seven games, including a four-game stretch in which he was averaging a passing TD per quarter of football. Expectations are predictably sky-high as he prepares to begin his first offseason as the starting QB. On average, Watson is the overall QB2 in early fantasy drafts, behind only Aaron Rodgers. This begs the question: is there any way he can live up to expectations?
It's extremely unlikely to imagine that he'll approach his 9.3% TD% and he may have some limitations in his mobility based on his return from injury. It helps to have one of the best receivers in the game, DeAndre Hopkins, running across the field, however. While Watson cannot be expected to deliver 40+ TD or 4,000 yards based on such a small sample size, he shouldn't fall off a cliff either. It's best to target Watson if he slips past the first few established QBs like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, and Cam Newton.
