One very surprising name near the top of the practice leaderboard at Martinsville on Saturday was Corey Lajoie. The No. 7 Chevrolet posted a lap time of 20.199 seconds, which equates to 93.747 mph over this half-mile track. That speed made Lajoie the second-fastest car out of the 36 entered on Saturday afternoon. Lajoie isn't known for his short track prowess, but he does have a couple of 18th-place finishes to his credit at Martinsville (back in 2019 and 2020). Although the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet could challenge for a top-25 finish in Sunday's Xfinity 500 at Martinsville, you should take Lajoie's practice speed with a grain of salt, as he likely won't be able to compete for a top result.
