Clay Holmes Earns 10th Save Of Season Tuesday
3 years agoNew York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes notched his 10th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Rays. Holmes entered the game to pitch the ninth inning with a two-run lead. He struck the first two hitters out, allowed a single, and then ended the game with a flyout. The 29-year-old has been superb this season, going 4-0 without a blown save, a 0.31 ERA, 31 strikeouts, and just three walks over 29 2/3 innings pitched. Teammate Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) has started throwing bullpen sessions, but the closer's role may not automatically be his again once he returns, given how well Holmes has pitched. Holmes is currently a high-end fantasy closing option and may still be one when Chapman returns.
