Carlos Santana Reaches Deal With Royals
4 years agoThe Kansas City Royals agreed to a two-year, $17 million deal with first baseman Carlos Santana on Tuesday, according to sources. Santana, a veteran with power and on-base skills, became a free agent when the Indians declined his $17.5 million option for the 2021 season. The switch-hitter batted just .199 in the shortened 2020 season, though, adding eight home runs and 30 RBI in 60 games. However, Santana still sported a useful .349 on-base percentage by ranking second in the big leagues with an American League-best 47 walks. He hit 216 homers and drove in 710 runs in his 10 seasons with Cleveland. Santana has been durable as well, playing in at least 152 games in every season of his career except for his rookie year in 2010 and in 2012. The 34-year-old is most attractive to fantasy managers for his ability to get on base often.
