Cade Povich Expected to Start Rehab Assignment Soon
Cade Povich (hip) is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment soon, according to interim manager Tony Mansolino. It's good news after Povich landed on the 15-day injured list just a week ago with inflammation in his left hip. If the 25-year-old southpaw doesn't suffer a setback with his hip, he'll have a good shot at returning to the big-league roster when he's eligible on July 1. Povich is in his second major-league season and went 2-5 with a 5.15 ERA (4.09 FIP) and 1.50 WHIP with 68 strikeouts and 23 walks in 64 2/3 innings pitched over 13 outings (12 starts) before his hip injury. The former third-rounder doesn't have overpowering stuff and also struggled in his MLB debut a year ago with a 5.20 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 69:34 K:BB, but he has shown some improvement in his strikeout rate this year.
