C.J. Uzomah 2020 Outlook: A Low-Cost, Low-Upside Depth Option At Tight End
5 years agoTyler Eifert is finally out of the way in Cincinnati, but can C.J. Uzomah hold off second-year tight end Drew Sample, who the Bengals expect to see a big second-year leap from? Uzomah is widely considered the better pass-catching tight end, so he'll have that going for him. But even in his best season with Eifert on the shelf, the former fifth-round pick had 43 receptions for 439 yards and three touchdowns over a full 16-game schedule. Fantasy owners need more than that. Uzomah could become a nice emergency checkdown and red-zone option for No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow, but it's unlikely that he'll suddenly take a huge step forward as a powerhouse tight end in an offense with some solid receiving options already. He'll be a low-end TE2 option in deeper leagues and merely a bye-week filler in most standard-size formats.
