Benny Snell 2021 Outlook: Slow, Unathletic Backup is Cut Candidate
4 years agoDespite being an early declare, Benny Snell was one of the worst running back prospects of the 2019 draft class. He ran a 4.66 40 with 12th percentile burst and 50th percentile agility according to playerprofiler.com. He was awful as a rookie, but allegedly revamped his body and entered 2020 on team "best shape of his life." Snell burst out of the gate with a smash Week 1 performance and it looked like he was off to the races. It turns out it was just a mirage. Snell just doesn't have NFL ability. The Steelers spent a first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on Najee Harris, who will immediately slot in as the team's feature back. Even with James Conner gone, Snell will be hard-pressed to find his way into any meaningful role. Furthermore, Snell proved in 2020 that even if the starter is inefficient/injured, he's not going to benefit from it. The Steelers still have Jaylen Samuels and Anthony McFarland. They also signed Kalen Ballage. Snell is likely to open the season fourth on the depth chart or as a free agent. He can be ignored in all league formats of all sizes.
