Angels In The Mix For James McCann
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels remain in the mix for free-agent catcher James McCann, according to sources. They have been in on him from the beginning, and McCann has ties to Southern California, as he was born in Santa Barbara and went to high school in California. But the Mets have been seriously engaged in talks with McCann and remain the favorites for his services. The Angels needs on the pitching side makes them unlikely to outbid New York for McCann. It's expected that the 30-year-old will receive a four-year deal. He's the second-best free-agent catching option on the open market behind J.T. Realmuto, but the Mets are targeting him over Realmuto because they have plans to go after right-hander Trevor Bauer and outfielder George Springer as well.
