The San Francisco 49ers offense had the highest motion rate (75.7 percent) in the league last year and are once again leading the league in pre-snap shifts (72.1 percent). However, key injuries to their skill position players in 2020 have made the tactic less effective. They're gaining 6.1 yards per play using motion this year (eight-most in the NFL), compared to 6.4 yards per play using motion last year (most in the NFL). Coming in second place in motion rate after nine weeks is the Baltimore Ravens (69.3 percent), followed by the Kansas City Chiefs (63.7 percent), Las Vegas Raiders (62.5 percent) and Los Angeles Rams (60.7 percent).
