Is Cam Skattebo Hurt or Healthy? Injury Update for Fantasy Football Week 1 (2025)

Cam Skattebo - College Football Rankings, NCAA CFB DFS Lineup Picks

Is New York Giants rookie RB Cam Skattebo hurt or healthy? Will Cam Skattebo be healthy enough to play in Week 1? John breaks down the latest Cam Skattebo injury news for fantasy football.

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo is a rookie who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He's set to join a backfield featuring fellow RBs Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary, the only other two healthy running backs on the roster.

Skattebo's final college season was a productive one. He rushed 293 times for 1,711 yards, averaging 5.8 yards per carry, and scored 21 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 45 balls for 605 yards and added three scores through the air for Arizona State.

But it's not like he's set to take over the backfield cleanly. Tracy had a nice rookie season, and Singletary has been productive at times in the past. Still, he was selected with solid draft capital, but injuries have already been an issue. So, will Skattebo be able to get healthy and play this season, and in Week 1? Let's answer these and dive into his fantasy football outlook below!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Will Cam Skattebo Play This Season?

Yes. Currently, he's not listed on the team's injury report. It will be important to keep an eye on his situation, though. He was recently dealing with a hamstring injury, and while he's since improved and returned to practice, hamstring issues can linger for months and be easy to reaggravate.

It was described as a mild hamstring injury, though, so it's not something to panic about. Players often return from hamstring issues and play in every subsequent contest for the rest of the season. Additionally, in the offseason, teams tend to be more cautious about having their players battle through injuries.

Will Cam Skattebo Play In Week 1?

It appears, for now, that he won't miss Week 1, either. How much he'll play is another question entirely, but we should expect him to at least suit up and handle a few touches at minimum. The pick the team spent on him would usually indicate that the team wants to get him on the field and see what he can do in regular-season action right away.

Skattebo forced a high rate of missed tackles in his final season. He played with good contact balance and strength, at least in the Big 12, and the team likely wants to see if that power will translate to the next level. So, I'd guess he gets opportunities and sees the field from the start of the season.

Cam Skattebo 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook

His outlook is a different matter altogether. The biggest question mark people have about him is obviously his speed. I don't think there's much to question -- he's not particularly explosive or fast. Explosive here means having good burst and acceleration. His pro day 4.65-second 40-yard dash is a big red flag in my mind.

It's much, much harder for players with poor athleticism to succeed at the next level. It's also easier to rely on raw athleticism as a guaranteed ability to make defenders miss and outrun them when needed. Skattebo might need a huge volume of touches in the NFL to pay off on having him in a starting lineup.

Unless Skattebo's contact balance and strength are somehow so good that he's able to regularly break tackles of NFL linebackers and defensive tackles, it seems like Tracy is set to remain the team's lead back and handle the lion's share of the touches, considering how left in the dust Singletary was last season.

The list of RBs who run hand-timed 4.65s, which translates to somewhere between 4.7 and 4.8 for a laser-timed 40, is incredibly small. Add in that the Giants have a bad offense overall and a bad offensive line, and it's hard to project Skattebo having a productive rookie season. I've avoided him in all leagues.
