Although none of the players mentioned in the headline are of any significance for the remainder of the 2015 fantasy football season, all three are worth holding onto in keeper and/or dynasty leagues.
Let’s start with Mark Ingram, who was having a fantastic season with the New Orleans Saints until he was placed on injured reserve earlier this week. Ingram will only be 26 years old to begin the 2016 NFL season, which is usually regarded a running back’s prime years.
The team placed Ingram on injured reserve due to a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, but because the team cut his season short he should undoubtedly be ready to go when the 2016 season starts. All indications point towards Ingram being the Saints every down back next season.
In the 12 games he played in 2015 for the Saints, Ingram averaged 4.6 yards per carry with 769 yards on 166 carries. He scored six touchdowns and also hauled in 50 passes for an additional 405 yards.
When it’s time for fantasy football drafts in 2016, Ingram will likely be a first-round draft pick in all leagues.
Another player with a very bright future is Indianapolis Colts rookie wide receiver Phillip Dorsett. Although Dorsett has been hampered with injuries throughout the season, the rookie has practiced all week and is on track to return to the football field in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Dorsett doesn’t have much value for the rest of 2015, but next season he will likely battle it out with Donte Moncrief for the team’s starting job across from T.Y. Hilton. Even if he doesn’t beat out Moncrief, Dorsett would likely start in the slot for the Colts, who love to throw the football early and often.
The Colts are loaded at receiver, but Dorsett is definitely in their plans going forward. That’s why they selected him in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft.
Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Ty Montgomery is a player who may have a bright future. Next season the Packers will Jordy Nelson back, along with Randall Cobb and Davante Adams. That could mean Montgomery will be slotted in as the team’s WR4. But, not so fast…
Adams has not taken advantage of his opportunities this season, which should open the door for Montgomery in the offseason. I would expect the two to battle it out for the Packers WR3 duties in the offseason. And whichever player wins the team’s WR3 duties should be owned in all fantasy football leagues next season.
