james conner fantasy football rankings news NFL DFS lineup picks

Fantasy football RB injury updates and injury reports for running backs for Week 9 (2022), as of 11/5, including Austin Ekeler, Derrick Henry, Jonathan Taylor, D'Andre Swift, and Chuba Hubbard.

Below you will find our fantasy football injuries report for running backs in Week 9, as of November 5. The injury statuses for various NFL running backs are up in the air for Week 9 including Austin Ekeler, Derrick Henry, Jonathan Taylor, D'Andre Swift, and Chuba Hubbard.

As the fantasy football season carries on, every decision, transaction, and lineup change matters. These are critical running back injuries to keep track of throughout the week. Being up-to-date on NFL injury news can give you an edge over your league mates in fantasy football.

Let's look at the updates for some running backs and see whether they may play in Week 9.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Austin Ekeler Injury Update

Ekeler (abdomen) logged a limited practice on Thursday, but he bounced back in a full capacity on Friday. One of the most talented running backs in football, Ekeler's role could only grow in Week 9 as the Chargers proceed without Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle). Consider Ekeler a high-end RB1 in fantasy football this week.

Derrick Henry Injury Update

Henry (foot) was limited on Wednesday due to injury, absent on Thursday for a rest day, and a full participant to close out the week on Friday. While his practice statuses have certainly varied, all that matters is the fact that Henry has been removed from the injury report and will play Sunday. He's a weekly high-end RB1 at this point.

Jonathan Taylor Injury Update

Taylor (ankle) did not participate in practice at all this week. As a result, he has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Deon Jackson will start in his place, ranking as a fringe RB2. Although Taylor's nagging injury has been annoying, the good news is that he's expected to avoid a stint on IR.

D'Andre Swift Injury Update

Swift (ankle, shoulder) has made progress throughout the week. He was limited during Friday's practice and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game. Swift made his return from a three-game absence last week and was restricted to just five rushes and five receptions. A similar role can be expected in Week 9 since the Lions don't want to worsen his injury.

Chuba Hubbard Injury Update

Hubbard (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 9. Although he was limited on Wednesday and Thursday, the second-year back was downgraded to a non-participant on Friday. D'Onta Foreman will remain the Panthers' clear lead back, ranking as a top-24 option in fantasy football.

Gus Edwards Injury Update

Edwards (hamstring) missed his second consecutive practice on Friday. The 27-year-old has rushed 27 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns since returning to the mix two weeks ago. The difficulty here is that the Ravens don't play until Monday night. If you need a more reliable option in your lineup, perhaps pivot to someone who is guaranteed to start.

Damien Harris Injury Update

Harris (illness) was limited in practice all week long, putting his availability for Sunday's game against the Colts in doubt. He is officially listed as questionable and will presumably be a game-time decision. Last week, the 24-year-old played 41 percent of snaps, his second-highest mark of the season. However, he is still the No. 2 option behind Rhamondre Stevenson and should be viewed as nothing more than a mid-range RB3.

James Conner Injury Update

Conner (ribs) was limited in practice every day this week. He is officially listed as questionable for Week 9, and as head coach Kliff Kingsbury explained, a decision on his status won't be made until 2:35 p.m. on Sunday. The 27-year-old has missed the Cardinals' last three games, putting Eno Benjamin in the lead-back role.

Cordarrelle Patterson Injury Update

The Falcons have yet to decide if Patterson (knee) will return from injured reserve this week. Head coach Arthur Smith intends to make that decision on Saturday afternoon. If active, Patterson and Tyler Allgeier figure to split touches, putting them both in the high-end RB3 tier against a weak Chargers run defense. However, if Patterson is unable to play, Allgeier would rank as an RB2 with Caleb Huntley as a low-end RB3.

Cam Akers Injury Update

Akers (personal) practiced in full on Friday and has now been removed from the injury report. Still, head coach Sean McVay would not guarantee that the 23-year-old will suit up in Week 9. After all, Akers has missed nearly three weeks of practice, so the Rams want to make sure he is physically capable enough to play. If he's held out this week, look for the Rams to rely on some combination of Darrell Henderson and Ronnie Rivers while also mixing in Malcolm Brown.

J.D. McKissic Injury Update

McKissic (neck) did not practice this week and has now been ruled out for Sunday's game. As the veteran back visits a specialist, the Commanders will task Antonio Gibson with an even bigger role in the passing game. The 24-year-old caught seven passes for 58 yards and one touchdown last week, and since Brian Robinson Jr. offers no receiving allure, Gibson should be quite busy in a game that will require the Commanders to throw the football. He ranks as a stable RB2 option while Robinson is an RB3.

Kyren Williams Injury Update

Williams (ankle) has a chance to be activated from injured reserve prior to Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. He appeared to practice in full this week, so the Rams simply need to activate him on Saturday afternoon in order to make him eligible to play. He's worth stashing in most fantasy leagues, but until we know what his role will look like, he belongs on your bench.

Darrel Williams Injury Update

Williams (hip) was placed on injured reserve this week. As it currently stands, the Cardinals will proceed with Conner (hip) and Benjamin leading their backfield. Rookie Keaontay Ingram is listed third on the depth chart but will primarily reside on special teams.

Pierre Strong Jr. Injury Update

After being limited in practice all week long, Strong (hamstring) is officially questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts. Depending on the availability of Harris (illness), Strong could operate as the No. 2 behind Rhamondre Stevenson. Of course, if neither Harris nor Strong can suit up, Kevin Harris would rise up the depth chart.
