There is only one bowl game today because the NBA takes over with a loaded slate. I still say that college football is more entertaining, but it might not lead to better games. Or will it? Both will feature last-minute player scratches that leave you scrambling to fix your lineups. At least we have a little more clarity in the New Orleans Bowl with Austin Reed withdrawing from the transfer portal.
We head to N'awlins for some crawfish etouffee and a bowl game! The Jaguars scored their first ten-win season in FBS and are now looking for their first bowl win. They lost to Troy and UCLA by a combined five points! On the other side, the Hilltoppers went 8-5 with three of the five losses coming to bowl teams (UTSA, North Texas, and Troy) and the other two coming against power-five foes (Indiana and Auburn).

DFS Captain Plays
Austin Reed, QB, Western Kentucky ($15,900)
Reed is not rewriting record books like Bailey Zappe did in this offense in 2021, but he still threw for 4,247 yards and 36 touchdowns. Reed threw more than 42 passes in seven of the 12 games this season and topped 300 passing yards in eight games. He has a high floor, but South Alabama only allowed 215.8 passing yards per game this year and only allowed 17 passing touchdowns in 12 games. Something has to give. I don't think it will be Reed. I still think he hits 300 yards, but the interceptions will hurt his upside. Still, this feels like a bargain for a team that throws as much as the Hilltoppers do.
La'Damian Webb, RB, South Alabama ($14,700)
This is harder than Monday's showdown. Webb, another one of those four-star recruits that washed out of a major school (Florida State) and wound up running wild in a mid-major, already announced that he is returning to Mobile next season. Webb played nine full games, running for 995 yards in those games and 13 touchdowns. He had just one carry against Monroe before getting hurt and plays sparingly against Troy. Webb will get a lion's share of the carries and gets work out of the backfield as well.
Other Captains: Malachi Corley, Western Kentucky ($14,400)
DFS Flex Plays
Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky ($9,600)
Corley announcing his return likely helped Austin Reed decide to stay as well. Corley hauled in 90 passes for 1,179 yards this season, but the nine touchdowns feel a bit low since his quarterback threw 36 of them. Troy was the only team to hold Corley in single digits for fantasy points and he cleared 23 DraftKings points in three of the last four games. While Reed may have some risk with interceptions, playing Corley instead of him just gets you the good parts of Reed's game. Corley's floor should still be double digits.
Jaylen Hall, WR, Western Kentucky ($7,000)
The transfer from Western Michigan started the season slowly, but he really stepped up when defenses started shifting more coverage to Corley. Hall hauled in 23 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns in the last three games alone. I have my reservations about Reed. Sometimes he doesn't make the best decisions. However, the passing volume keeps the floor high on his receivers, making them relatively safe options in the mid-range.
Other Flex Options: Carter Bradley, South Alabama ($11,800); Caullin Lacy, South Alabama ($8,400)
DFS Value Plays
Devin Voisin, WR, South Alabama ($5,400)
Voisin is technically the third receiver for the Jaguars, but with Jared Wayne not hauling in many of the passes that he did early in the season, Bradley started looking toward Voisin more. Voisin caught 15 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns in the last three weeks alone. That's still third amongst receivers, but it tells us two things: one, the production is not much lower than Wayne and Lacy, but his price is more than $3k less than Wayne and right at $3k under Lacy. Two, it shows that Bradley has been throwing enough to keep all three receivers viable in fantasy. There's no shame, and not much risk, in taking the bargain here.
Braylon McReynolds, RB, South Alabama ($2,800)
The Jaguars started to ease the load on Webb down the stretch this season, which led to 30 touches over the last two games for McReynolds. He gets enough volume as the backup and catches enough passes to give him a strong floor. McReynolds won't break the slate, but he could help you afford someone that can and give you a workable floor.
