Juan Soto Out Against Padres
Juan Soto (foot) will sit out for the series finale against his former team, the San Diego Padres, on Wednesday. It will be the second time that Soto hasn't started in his first year with the Mets, but the team is going to give him a breather after he was pulled from Tuesday's loss early due to a left-foot contusion after he was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning. Jeff McNeil will start in right field and will bat fifth on Wednesday against Padres right-hander Yu Darvish. X-rays came back negative for any fractures on Soto's foot, so there's probably a good chance he'll be back for Friday's series opener against the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field after a scheduled day off on Thursday. McNeil has faced Darvish 17 times in his career and is hitting just .118 with a .564 OPS with one home run and four RBI. Check back on Friday to see if Soto is back in action. UPDATE: The Mets hope that Soto will return on Friday, and there's even a chance he could pinch hit on Wednesday, depending on how he feels. "I think we dodged a bullet here," manager Carlos Mendoza said.
