Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (6/22) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Sunday, June 23rd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 23rd. Enjoy them. Daily Musings

  • What is baseball? Though it is a rivalry, it can be a beautiful thing. A game we all love that rises above any petty differences. The Cardinals fans cheering for Albert Pujols HR(13) against them is an example of such beauty.
  • Pete Alonso ties Darryl Strawberry and the previous Mets Rookie HR record (26). Unfortunately, there aren’t many days left in the season for him to actually break the record. (Scratch & Sniff (HERE) for sarcasm)
  • Jimmy Nelson, I waited two years for you. You’re a bullpen guy?
  • Derek Dietrich. “Hit me. Just Hit Me, Dammit.”
  • Marcell Ozuna w/20th HR. Tied for second w/62RBI. & Cardinals haven’t even hit well yet.
  • Dakota Hudson last 10 starts. 2.48ERA/3.53FIP. 64%GB. Efficient but only 6.6%K-BB.
  • Jose Quintana owners. Go into the back yard, scream at the top of your lungs. Get it out. Therapeutic. Then grab the closest bottle of whiskey to try to forget 4.1IP, 8ER, 2K outing. Keep the bottle close, ATL next.
  • Elieser Hernandez looked decent vs PHI (3ER, 5IP, 6K). PHI again next. Who are these schedulers? PHI, WSH, PHI, WSH. That is lazy.
  • BoSox bullpen implosion. Maybe it is time to call SF and see if they’ll take a prospect or two for Will Smith. No, not Triston Casas. Don’t be ridiculous.
  • Chris Paddack dominate in return? Meh. 5IP, 2ER, 1K, 3BB. STL next, if he stays.
  • Manny Machado w/six HR in nine games. Ooooh-Whee. Owners grinning: “This is why we paid the big bucks.”
  • Another sleeping giant awakened. Matt Chapman w/HR(18). 2HR, 6RBI, .370AVG/7days. 92.7avg exit velo. YOWZA!!
  • Domingo Santana cruisin’ for a bruisin’. 4HR, 9RBI, .346AVG/7days. Vengeance will be his in return to Old Milwaukee. But first, one last game vs BAL.
  • Jonathan Villar lacking sexiness recently. 2HR, 3SB, .250AVG/7days. A week at Camden could draw your interest.
  • Yasiel Puig dropping bombs (16). Five HR/eight games. Summer, Summer, Summer-time. Ooooh, Summertime.
  • Yes, Ozzie Albies will steal bases (six) at bottom of the lineup.
  • Freddie Freeman having an orgy w/all the goodness around him this year. 59R, 21HR, 61RBI, .318AVG.
  • Despite long hiatus, Trea Turner tied for 10th w/13SB.
  • Goin Ya-Ya. Yordan Alvarez w/6th HR. 18.5%Brls/BBE. Impressive young man.
  • Giancarlo Stanton quells the crowd w/four-RBI game. How long will that last? Til Sunday.
  • Hyun-Jin Ryu excellent w/o W. 6IP, 1ER, 5K. Star of the game was Alex Verdugo w/two HR(seven). THUNDER!!
  • Someone has lit a fire under Nomar Mazara (three HR/two games). Leaving Texas this week though.
  • Tim Anderson. Productive. 11HR, 15SB, .320AVG. 43.9% Chase rate?! Someone’s gonna take advantage.
  • Ok, Mike Yastrzemski. You have my attention. Three HR/four games. I’ll wait though. 6 righties next week & you don’t like them (.238).
  • Leonys Martin. Gone.
  • Mike Foltynewicz to Triple-A. Not surprised.
  • Bullpen Wildness
