Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

juan soto fantasy baseball rankings outfield MLB injury news

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/17) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Sunday, August 18th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 18th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • For fear of being left behind, Christian Yelich joins the boys at 41.
  • Kris Bryant w/87.6mph exit velo, better than last two years, not as good as the first two (89.5mph). Brls%(9.4) is career-low.
  • Gleyber Torres mashes two. SS shelves are stocked.
  • The demand for mediocrity is running wild in MLB. Too many teams stuck in the status quo.
  • Kyle Seager remembers his power-stroke. 9HR, 19, .294AVG(2nd half)
  • Bo Bichette w/fifth sultry swat. Caught stealing four times, but I don’t care. Run Bo Run.
  • Austin Nola w/catcher eligibility. Easy money w/ton of at-bats.
  • Chris Bassitt w/win vs Astros. San Fran next should be childs play.
  • Would anyone be surprised if Yadier Alvarez reaches 30HR? GOIN’ YA-YA!
  • Starter, Chaser. It doesn’t matter. Ryan Yarbrough is extremely valuable. 18.5%K-BB. The schedule is favorable, Get Some YAR-BRUH!
  • Was Nick Senzel overhyped due to potential? Still 10HR/10SB. Maybe some discount in 2020 leagues.
  • Aristides Aquino w/11th red light special
  • We get it, J.T. Realmuto. You can hit the ball far. Four in five games.
  • Manny Machado forgot how to steal. Got caught.
  • Juan Soto knows how to make lunch. Combo meal (26HR/12SB)
  • Well, look at that. Trent Grisham homered off a southpaw.
  • Trea Turner makes a statement, “I will still be a first-round pick in 2020.”
  • Josh Hader w/more HR allowed(13) than last two years combined.
  • Eduardo Rodriguez joins 14-Win club. No, he hasn’t arrived yet, but he’ll get priced up next year.
  • Another fan swoons as Rafael Devers sends long-distance lovin’(26).
  • Great pitching + run support = Jacob deGrom win. Yes, we have it figured out now.
  • Seth Lugo gets third save. A sigh of relief falls over the crowd as Diaz is absent.
  • Oops. Mark Melancon did it again. Dominate! Who’s the Savior?! Uh, Markie Melancholy? NO! MelanSON!
  • Adam Duvall, we’re not falling for you again. You broke our heart...and maybe Ender Inciarte too.
  • Throw a guy in a Dodgers uniform, he gets a combo meal. Today’s contestant is Matt Beaty!!!
  • Tough outing for Hyun-Jin Ryu vs. Braves. Will Yankees and Padres be better?
  • Miguel Sano, I’ll buy back in for 2020. .242AVG is fine for me if you stay out of trouble and play the whole year.
  • Danny Santana w/ two ‘I can’t believe it’s not Joey Gallo.’
  • Jose Berrios betrayed and falls victim to Arlington.
  • Has everyone blocked all Nick Ahmed comments?
  • Perfecto for Kevin Pillar.
  • Logan Webb?
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. let the MRI gods be kind to you.
  • Julio Urias. Suspensions-R-Us.
  • Chris Sale to the IL. Damn.
  • German Marquez has solved Coors Field. The greatest arrives. *Excuse me* Yes. *It was the Marlins* Stop all this shenaniganry. I don’t care.
  • You wanted speed, you got zero last week. Jon Berti sends his condolences w/a HR attached.
  • Ryan McMahon might have been better-served w/solidified position at seasons start. There will likely be confusion in 2020 as well.
  • Oh, where o’ where have my SB gone. Charlie Blackmon has taken them away from me. 25 love taps are nice.
  • “Putting all the powers together of the rare earth minerals; come up with this incredible computer-generated stud for the future?” Yes, Bill Walton, that is Eloy Jimenez.
  • Have a great day. Make it easy like Sunday morning.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
