NHL DFS Picks for Thursday, December 17th
Welcome back for another night in daily fantasy hockey. Tonight we have a huge 11 game slate with a ton of options at every position. There are no teams playing on back to back nights but three teams (BUF, CBJ, EDM) are playing a third game in four nights. Target offenses opposing these teams, especially vs. the Blue Jackets and Oilers who are on the road.
A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards.
For large field tournaments(GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.
With that, let's dig in to find some core plays for Thursday night.
Jake Allen - Goaltender, Blues (DraftKings - $7,700 FanDuel - $9,700)
The Blues come into this matchup as home favorites as they welcome the Nashville Predators who have been a struggling group lately. Allen has faced the Preds in Nashville earlier this year and shut them out with a 45 save performance. Allen is 14-7-2 with a .925 save % on the season and has picked up wins in three of his last four games.
Tyler Seguin - Center, Stars (DraftKings - $8,800 FanDuel - $8,700)
He bounced back after an off game with two goals and a +3 rating last game vs. the Blue Jackets. Seguin now has 42 points on the year and remains a great value on both sites with a salary that is staying below $9,000 consistently.
Alex Steen - Winger, Blues (DraftKings - $7,100 FanDuel - $8,100)
Has thrived in his role on the top line with Vladimir Tarasenko and Paul Stastny. He also gets around 3:00 of powerplay time per game as well adding a ton of value as the Blues rank 8th with the man advantage.
Jakub Voracek - Winger, Flyers (DraftKings - $5,600 FanDuel - $7,400)
After a season where he scored 22 goals and picked up 81 total points, 2015/16 has been a disappointment to this point. In 31 games he has only produced 19 points and only scored two goals. He is, however, coming off his best game of the year where he picked up a goal and two assists. He is streaky player and gets to play alongside Claude Giroux on the Flyers top line.
Kris Russell - Defense, Flames (DraftKings - $4,500 FanDuel - $5,900)
He is not known for his scoring touch but has three points in his last two games. His best value is on DraftKings where he adds peripheral stats such as blocked shots. The Flames are red hot right now riding a six game win streak adding value to almost every player on the team.
