Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Adbert Alzolay Pitches Well In Season Debut

Chicago Cubs top pitching prospect Adbert Alzolay went six innings in his season debut for Triple-A Iowa on Friday. Alzolay allowed one run, two hits and struck out six batters. Alzolay throws his fastball in the upper 90s, but is still developing his changeup to go along with his fastball and curveball. The right-hander has […]

Kyle Schwarber Out Of Lineup Saturday Versus Rockies

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber will sit Saturday versus the Rockies. It makes sense as the team faces left-handed Tyler Anderson. Ian Happ will replace Schwarber in the lineup and bat sixth. Schwarber has had a very good season with a .283 batting average to go along with four home runs and 13 RBI.

Tim Anderson Will Bat First Saturday

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson will bat first Saturday evening versus the Houston Astros. Anderson is struggling and is seven for his last 36, but has picked up four stolen bases over that span. It’s an odd move by manager Rick Renteria as Anderson is ice cold and second baseman Yoan Moncada who has […]

Yoan Moncada Moved Down To No. 6 Spot Saturday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada has been moved down from the No. 1 spot in the order to the No. 6 spot. It’s a bit of an interesting move as Moncada has been seeing the ball very well with a .294 batting average, two home runs, six RBI and four stolen bases over […]

David Bote Promoted To Replace Ben Zobrist

The Chicago Cubs have promoted infielder David Bote to replace Ben Zobrist (back) who was placed on the 10-day disabled list. Bote has hit .234 with three home runs over his first 49 at-bats in Triple-A Iowa. Bote will play third base tonight, but will doesn’t hold much value as he will mostly be a […]

Ben Zobrist Will Land On Disabled List

Chicago Cubs utility man Ben Zobrist (back) told reporters that he will be placed on the disabled list Saturday. Zobrist has had back issues dating back to last year and the team elected to play it slow with him in spring training. With Ian Happ struggling, Albert Almora seems to be the likely beneficiary in […]

Hunter Pence Goes On Disabled List, Mac Williamson Called Up

The San Francisco Giants have placed outfielder Hunter Pence (thumb) on the 10-day disabled list with a right thumb injury. Pence has been off to a slow start, hitting just .172 in 58 at-bats. Replacing Pence on the Giants roster will be Mac Williamson. Williamson has been on fire for Triple-A Sacramento, hitting .487 with […]

Eugenio Suarez Travels With Reds

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez is traveling with the Reds and said he can field and do some light throwing. Suarez has yet to start swinging the bat, but he says he’s feeling much better. The Reds have top prospect Nick Senzel working on his glove at third base, but with Suarez having encouraging […]

Scott Schebler Activated From Disabled List

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Scott Schebler (elbow) has been activated from the disabled list. Schebler has been on the disabled list since April 6 with an elbow injury. The Reds have been employing a four-man rotation in their outfield, but Schebler can still help owners seeking power. Pitcher Cody Reed was sent down in a corresponding move. […]

Luis Robert Could Go To Extended Spring Training Soon

Chicago White Sox outfield prospect Luis Robert (thumb) will have his thumb checked out in Chicago next week. If everything checks out, he will report to extended spring training. Robert had a nice spring training before suffering a sprained thumb and has a very bright future for the White Sox. He will likely start the […]

Jack Flaherty Throws Complete Game Thursday

St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Jack Flaherty threw a complete game Thursday for Triple-A Memphis. Flaherty allowed two hits, struck out six and walked one batter. Flaherty got a taste of the big leagues earlier this season when Adam Wainwright was sidelined and didn’t disappoint. He has checked all the boxes and has nothing left […]

Mickey Moniak Picks Up Three Hits Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies outfield prospect Mickey Moniak picked up three hits Thursday evening. The former first overall pick in the 2016 draft, Moniak has struggled early in his career. Moniak is still just 19 and has a strong profile for contact, hitting and defense. It will be a while until Moniak sees the big leagues and […]

Carlos Rodon To Throw In Extended Spring Training Games

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (shoulder) will begin throwing in extended spring training games Monday. Rodon has been progressing well and is targeting June as his return date. He is worth stashing if owners have the roster space to do so.

Eddie Butler Lands On 10-Day Disabled List, Luke Farrell Called Up

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Eddie Butler (groin) has landed on the disabled list with a right groin strain. Butler has been operating in long relief for the Cubs and doesn’t hold fantasy value. Relief pitcher Luke Farrell has been promoted to take his spot on the roster and can be avoided in all formats.

Justus Sheffield Strikes Out Eight Batters Thursday

New York Yankees pitching prospect Justus Sheffield went six innings, allowing two runs and striking out eight batters Thursday night for Double-A Trenton. The left-hander is now 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA over his first three starts. Sheffield has 22 strikeouts in 16 innings but has been hurt with 10 walks. Sheffield has strong upside […]

James Shields Will Start Friday Versus Astros

The Chicago White Sox have named James Shields Friday’s starter versus the Houston Astros. Shields went two-thirds of an inning and suffered the loss out of the bullpen Wednesday versus the Oakland Athletics. Shields should be avoided Friday and should be on the waiver wire in most mixed formats.

Matt Davidson Won’t Be In Friday’s Lineup

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Matt Davidson will be on the bench Friday versus the Houston Astros. Catcher Welington Castillo will be Friday’s designated hitter and catcher Omar Narvaez will bat eighth and be behind the plate. Davidson got off to a hot start but is now four for his last 29.

Derek Law Demoted

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Derek Law has been sent down to Triple-A. Law was recently promoted to help the club eat up some innings in the bullpen, but he is no longer needed. Law gave up three runs (two earned) in two appereances. His demotion will open up a roster spot for Friday’s starter […]

Mac Williamson Will Be Promoted Friday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Mac Williamson will be promoted prior to Friday’s contest versus the Angels. Williamson has been an absolute hitting machine in Triple-A with a .487 batting average and six home runs in 39 at-bats. He is worth monitoring but will likely split time with Gregor Blanco and Gorkys Hernandez with Hunter Pence […]

Mark Melancon Expected To Play Catch In A Week

San Francisco Giants closer Mark Melancon (forearm) is expected to play catch in about a week. Melancon has yet to pitch this year and said in the spring that he did not feel 100 percent. With Hunter Strickland holding down the fort in the ninth inning and Melancon overcoming multiple injuries in his time with […]

Ian Happ Will Be Given Time To Improve

Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that outfielder Ian Happ has been working with hitting coach Chili Davis and will be given time to improve at the plate. Happ had a monstrous spring and rose up draft boards, but aside from a home run in his first at-bat, he has struggled and that has led […]

Hunter Pence Could Be Placed On Disabled List Friday

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence (thumb) could be placed on the disabled list Friday, as the team needs to open a spot for starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (pectoral), who will be activated on Friday. If Pence were to miss time, the beneficiaries would be Gorkys Hernandez […]

Madison Bumgarner Will Begin To Play Catch In Two Weeks

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (hand) had pins removed from his hand and will begin throwing in two weeks. MadBum is looking to return in early June. He may be rusty out of the gate, but he remains one of the top arms in the game when he's healthy. Bumgarner should remain stashed […]

Austin Jackson And Hunter Pence Will Rest Thursday

San Francisco Giants outfielders Austin Jackson and Hunter Pence will rest Thursday versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gregor Blanco will be in left field and bat first and Gorkys Hernandez will play center field and bat eighth. Both Blanco and Hernandez can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Anthony Rizzo Gets Three Hits Wednesday

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo went 3-for-4 on Wednesday. It was Rizzo’s second game back from the disabled list. The first baseman also finished with a walk and RBI. Rizzo will look to carry his strong game into a weekend series versus the Rockies at Coors Field.

Kyle Schwarber Drives In Two Runs Wednesday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber picked up two hits in Wednesday’s victory versus the Cardinals. Schwarber finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI. Schwarber has looked good on the young season and is now hitting .245 as the Cubs head to Colorado for a three-game set.

Jason Heyward Hits Home Run Wednesday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward hit his second home run of the year Wednesday afternoon. He finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon with two runs and two RBI. Heyward has struggled with the bat with a .226 batting average on the year. He remains best suited on the waiver wire, as he is in the Cubs […]

Javier Baez Stays Hot

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez continues to be on fire. On Wednesday afternoon, the second baseman picked up two more hits and finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Baez was in the No. 2 spot Wednesday and with the way he continues to hit, it is likely he can stay there.

Vintage Jon Lester Shows Up Wednesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester returned to form Thursday versus the Cardinals. Lester has been a mixed bag of results early on but went six innings, allowing two hits, one run (unearned), one walk and struck out seven batters. Lester needed an outing like this and owners are hoping he can keep the momentum […]

Hunter Strickland Blows Second Save Wednesday But Picks Up Win

San Francisco Giants closer Hunter Strickland blew his second save of the season late Wednesday night. Strickland was picked up by teammate Brandon Belt, who hit a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Giants the victory. Strickland’s job should remain safe for now, and he is now 2-0 […]
