Fantasy Basketball Night In Review - Tuesday, May 11th News and Notes

Welcome to the RotoBaller NBA Recap. In this feature, we will highlight a few key fantasy basketball takeaways from the games played during last night's slate. These viewpoints can be both positive and negative and will hopefully help to provide insight into different roster moves you should consider making based on trends and statistical nuggets from around the Association.

Fantasy basketball has a lot of moving pieces with all the different scoring settings that are possible to play under, so I will always do my best to spotlight where players gain or lose value in certain game types. For the sake of simplicity and consistency, every time I mention Fantasy Points in these articles I will be using DraftKings' scoring system, which goes as follows: 1*PTS, 0.5*3PM, 1.25*RBD, 1.5*AST, 2*STL, 2*BLK, -0.5*TO. On top of that, bonus points are awarded for Double-Doubles (+1.5) and Triple-Doubles (+3), only one per player at a time.

Without further ado, let's get right into the latest slate of games from the 2021 season and try to figure out how to take advantage of what we saw transpire.

Tuesday, May 11

The Lakers edge New York in OT bringing the Knicks down to the no. 6 seed out East; Denver locks into the top-4 in the West but can't bridge the one-game gap with the Clippers

The Knicks were fully entrenched into home-court advantage no more than a day ago, until they were not anymore. After dropping yesterday's match to the Lake Show in overtime, the Knicks now find themselves in a three-time tie with Miami and Atlanta but as the lowest-seeded squad of those three, currently sitting sixth. Tough break for New York, which in that case would be facing one of Milwaukee of Brooklyn in the first round. Ugh.

In the West, both Denver and the Clippers won their respective matches yesterday, and although the Nugs surely celebrated locked into a home-court advantage for the first round of the postseason, it's still all up in the air for them (and LAC, actually) who they'll be facing once they get there. Dallas and Portland are tied at 40-29 with the Blazers having the tiebreaker and thus projecting (as of today) as the Nugs first-round foe.

• Down night for Steph Curry even in victory. Steph could only score 21 points in which was a way-below-average outing for him in the points department, making way for Bradley Beal to cut the distance in the PPG race. The Wiz are back tonight after sitting yesterday.
• Domantas Sabonis keep doing it. Another triple-double for the Euro thanks to a great 16-13-15 line shooting 78% from the floor and handing Indy another much-needed win against Philly to stay up on the ninth seed and getting the better chances in their play-in bout-to-come against Washington.

• Redemption nights by Kemba Walker and Andrew Wiggins. Kemba has been much criticized during his Boston tenure, but he was great on Tuesday putting up a 36-7-4-1 in 38 minutes of playing time. Same for Wiggins--only career-wise for this one--who dropped 38 points on Phoenix to go with 7 boards, 3 dimes, and a steal to spare.
• Andre Drummond got it right (one of just a few times since becoming a Laker...) and was able to reach 48 DKFP thanks to a 16-18-3 dub-dub with a couple of swats added to that line. Dru was the best Lakers player out there on Tuesday with Anthony Davis putting up a dud with a 20-6-4-1 seemingly-packed line that fell way short for his fantasy GMs' expectations as it translated to a low 34 FP.

• Interesting turn of events yesterday for the Nets. Kyrie Irving was hit in the head inadvertently by Nicola Vucevic and left the game with potential concussion symptoms. James Harden is questionable for today's game against SAS, but we'll see if he makes it back or not, and Kevin Durant is in the same situation but played yesterday and should be good to go if he is not rested.
• Speaking of unavailable players: Utah's Donovan Mitchell won't play any more regular-season games after already missing the last few weeks as he gears up for the postseason. No Mitch till then, folks, so take advantage of the opportunities opened in the Jazz lineup given his absence, as has been the case for the past bunch of games.
