George Springer To IL With Oblique Strain
George Springer (oblique) will open the year on the injured list. The outfielder recently underwent a second MRI to gauge how well the Grade 2 oblique injury was healing and, while it showed the injury was moving in the right direction, the Jays chose to take a cautious approach with their recent free-agent acquisition. Springer signed a six-year, $150M contract in the offseason. For now, Randal Grichuk and Jonathan Davis will help fill in the void left by the former Houston Astros player. The other outfield regulars will be Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Teoscar Hernandez. No timeline was provided for Springer's return. He produced a 146 wRC+ last season in 51 games.
