Fantasy Basketball 9-Cat Waiver Wire Pickups - Week 6

Week 5 fantasy basketball waiver wire pickups, adds, and sleepers for the 2020-2021 NBA season. Justin Carter recommends guards, forwards and centers to target through waivers or free agency in fantasy leagues.

Another week of NBA action is upon us. Did y'all see the Cleveland Cavaliers win back-to-back games against Brooklyn this week? Is Cleveland...a playoff team? Is it too early for me to be suggesting that? Will they still trade Andre Drummond at some point to open up more minutes for Jarrett Allen? We'll see, I guess.

Anyway, let's help you figure out some waiver wire additions who can boost your squad in a 9-cat league!

Our staff at RotoBaller has great insight and daily columns on how to improve your squad and tips to make your team successful, so be sure to check them out! Now, let's get prepared for Week 6. All players in this article are rostered at around 50 percent or less.

Standard 9-Category Leagues - Waiver Wire Adds

Columns are written based on H2H 9-category standard size leagues:

Kendrick Nunn, PG/SG - Miami Heat

45% rostered - After a strong rookie campaign, Nunn opened this season as barely part of Miami's rotation. But due to COVID issues and a Tyler Herro neck injury, Nunn has played 30-plus minutes off the bench in four consecutive games. Over that span, he's averaging 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.8 steals, and 3.0 threes per game. Those numbers are pretty wild when you consider that Nunn didn't have a role with the Heat a month ago. His numbers will drop, but he's a must-add in the short term until the Heat are back at 100 percent.

Jeremy Lamb, SG/SF - Indiana Pacers

38% rostered - Lamb has finally returned after ACL surgery and if his first two games back are any indication, you've got to get him onto your roster. He had a solid outing in 19 minutes in the first game, but Friday's performance against the Magic really shows what Lamb can do on this team, which has a hole on the wing with Caris Levert (kidney) sidelined indefinitely. Lamb scored 22 points on 7-for-14 shooting in that one, draining a three and adding seven rebounds, an assist, and a steal. He's going to rack up points off the Pacers bench for now and while there are definitely obstacles in his future, add him for now.

Jeff Green, SF/PF/C - Brooklyn Nets

26% rostered - Old Man Jeff has found himself in an interesting position: he's the second-best center on the Brooklyn Nets roster after they traded away Jarrett Allen. That's...not great for Brooklyn, but it is good for Green, who in the last six games is averaging 32.8 minutes per contest. He's shooting 62.8 percent during that stretch with 2.7 threes and 12.5 points per game. He's also grabbing 4.7 rebounds per contest. The thing with Green is he'll often be sharing the floor with James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving, which means defenses are going to forget about him, leaving him with plenty of catch-and-shoot looks. That should keep his value up at least until the Nets add a couple of free agents to join the rotation.

Marcus Morris Sr., PF/C - Los Angeles Clippers

24% rostered - While he's calmed down in terms of scoring some over the past couple of games, Clippers forward/center Marcus Morris Sr. is still a strong fantasy addition right now because of his high upside. In the past week, Morris had a pair of games with 18-plus points, and in both of those, he made four three-pointers. That shooting is especially useful for fantasy managers who need threes, because Morris has center eligibility. And while his lack of rebounding -- in eight games this year, his best rebounding performances were seven of them against the Bulls and Pacers -- isn't what you want from a center, there are lots of ways to build a winning fantasy team.

Naz Reid, C - Minnesota Timberwolves

22% rostered - Karl-Anthony Towns is currently out with COVID, which is giving Naz Reid a strong minutes boost. He's played 25-plus minutes in each of the past four games, scoring in double figures three times, including a 20-point outing against the Pelicans. Reid has also made six threes over this span and has nine blocked shots. Points, threes, and blocks all in one person? With some nice efficiency? Sign me up!

Wayne Ellington, SG/SF - Detroit Pistons

18% rostered - Ellington has scored at least 16 points in each of the past four games, with at least four threes in each game. He's shot 45.5 percent or better in each game, plus has added three steals in that span. He's not the most well-rounded option out there, but the veteran shooter provides a scoring spark that the Pistons have been missing. I don't think we need to worry too much about Ellington's shooting suddenly drying up. While he shot 35 percent from three in 36 games with the Knicks last year, he's a career 38 percent three-point shooter. He won't keep up this year's 48.4 percent mark, but he should do enough to give you at least 2.5 threes per game going forward.

Taurean Prince, SF/PF - Cleveland Cavaliers

15% rostered - Prince is getting some nice minutes in his new home and in a two-game series against his former team, the Nets, he just averaged 27 minutes per game, with 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 2.5 threes. The Cavs really needed another wing who could shoot the ball. It's still a little too early to know if he keeps these minutes up once Cleveland adds Darius Garland back into the starting unit, but for now, it looks like Prince could see 20ish minutes per night and provide some solid production.

Xavier Tillman, PF - Memphis Grizzlies

8% rostered - With Jonas Valanciunas likely to miss at least a little more time in the league's health and safety protocols, Tillman is an intriguing option. Over the last three games, he's scored in double figures each time out while shooting 53.8 percent or better from the floor each time. He's also got seven steals over that span, which is another nice added bonus. Tillman won't be this valuable forever, but in a deeper league he's a solid short-term addition.
