Payton Tolle Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
Even though Tolle fell short of the Opening Day roster, the recent transaction that saw Johan Oviedo (elbow) be placed on the 15-day IL opens a role for Tolle on the major league roster. Even though the Boston rotation still has five pitchers at the moment, Brayan Bello has struggled early on, and fellow prospect Connelly Early could see his workload monitored at times, which could open the door for Tolle in the near future.
Tolle has begun the campaign at Triple-A and is coming off a dominant outing. On April 5, Tolle logged six innings of two-run ball (one earned) while totaling seven punchouts with just one walk, suggesting he is more than ready to return to Boston.

Payton Tolle Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
Tolle made his debut in 2025 and quickly progressed through the Boston system, finishing the campaign in the big leagues. He logged 91 2/3 innings shared between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A and carried a 3.04 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, with a dominant 133:23 K:BB. While he held a hefty 6.06 ERA in his first taste of the majors, Tolle possesses immense strikeout upside.
Following Oviedo's injury and Bello's struggles, Tolle could join the majors much sooner than expected. His strikeout upside alone makes him a top stash option in all standard leagues ahead of Week 3.
Among the top pitching prospects to stash, Tolle should be viewed as the priority target as he would possess the highest upside on a per-start basis.
